A Short Patched Boro Length: Wonderful Mending
ca. late nineteenth century
43 1/2" x 12 3/4", 110.5 cm x 32.5 cm
This is a very handsome length of indigo dyed cotton boro or tattered and mended cloth. This piece is hand stitched from three separate pieces of hand loomed cotton and shows five patches, each hand stitched to the base cloth.
A humble and unprepossessing piece of old Japanese cotton, this boro fragment was likely taken from a well-used kimono.
Simple and beautiful.
