A Short Neatly Patched Boro Panel: Noragi Fragment
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
28" x 13", 71 cm x 33 cm
This is a tightly woven length of indigo dyed cotton whose white warp yarns barely show, and when they do, they form a kind of woven mini-grid of sorts.
This short length is patched with 8 mending patches. Because of the way that a section of one of the short ends of this cloth is finished, we can say that this cloth was taken from a noragi, or a traditional work jacket.
A lovely, clean, clear length of cloth with good age and patching,
this is handsome.
There are a few very small, unnoticeable holes in the body of the piece, but otherwise this good looking cloth is in good condition.
