A Short Length of Delicately Drawn Wax Resisted Hemp Cloth: Hmong

$40.00 USD

possibly contemporary
33 1/2" x 12 1/2", 85 cm x 31.75 cm

This is a short length of hand woven hemp cloth which has been beautifully resist dyed in indigo.

The cloth comes from the Hmong people who are native to the mountainous areas of Thailand, Laos, China and Vietnam. This heavy weight length is machine finished on both its short ends and was once used as the bottom of a Hmong traditional skirt.

The delicately resisted linear pattern along the length of this piece is complex and beautiful and its pattern is sophisticated in its straightforwardness.

In good, slightly faded and abraded, used condition.

Beautiful.
