A Short Indigo Dyed Boro: Deep Tones and Chrysanthemums

$45.00 USD

ca. late nineteenth century
38" x 13 3/4", 96.5 cm x 35 cm

This is a richly colored and beautiful length of indigo dyed cotton katazome boro cloth.

The blue of this cloth is deep and sapphire blue, and the length is hand stitched from three separate pieces of indigo dyed cloth, the bottom two pieces being stencil resist dyed to show a pattern of stylized chrysanthemums.

As this cloth is partially dyed using a stencil resist technique, the cotton was first dyed in a fairly dark indigo.  Then, this dark blue was resisted and it was dyed again, yielding the velvety very dark blue of the finished piece.

A marvelous, small boro textile--just beautiful.
