A Set of Five Daifukucho: Many Blank Pages
early twentieth century
each book approximately: 7 x 5 1/2", 18 cm x 14 cm
This is a nice group of five slim, old daifukucho. A daifukucho is a hand bound, hand written book that was originally used for inventories, for accounting, for ledgers or as a record of loans.
Four of the books is fairly blank or about 1/2 full of writing done in sumi or charcoal-based ink. Four of the books' front exterior pages show hand written kanji or Chinese characters; these four are bound together by twined paper string. The fifth book, not attached to the others, contains a good deal of writing.
A good example of a traditional daifukucho.
