A Sashiko Stitched Kasuri Apron: Unused
mid twentieth century
21" x 19", 53.5 cm x 48 cm
When this apron was recently acquired it was found with a few others of similar type, each tacked closed, each unused and each seemingly made by the same hand.
This is an unused, sashiko stitched apron which is hand stitched from kasuri cotton cloth. The apron is stitched from two layers of cloth.
The selection of kasuri used for this apron is wonderful woven in an elaborate, checkerboard-like pattern.
The sashiko stitching which is done over the kasuri cotton is expertly done and regular in its arrangement. The cotton tie is made from undyed white cloth.
A wonderful accessory with a good deal of visual interest.
