A Sample of Fine Shibori Dyed Cotton: Tightly Stitched Field of Zigzags
$65.00 USD
mid twentieth century
25 1/4" x 12 1/4", 64 cm x 31 cm
This is a fragment of very finely made indigo dyed cotton shibori that was used as a dyer's sample. The cloth comes from Arimatsu which can be considered the shibori capital of Japan.
The work is very detailed and is more or less perfect in its execution of the chosen motif. In this case it is a field of stitched shibori that is done in a dense field of diagonally-oriented zigzags which creates a kind of herringbone effect.
A wonderful example of very fine shibori.
