A Sample Book of Silks: 1930s Designs

$295.00 USD

1930s or so
when closed: 10 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 3/4", 26.5 cm x 19 cm x 2 cm

This hard bound book is from a dye works or from a silk mill and it shows 30 different designs.

As the pages are numbered from "No. 31" to "No. 60" it indicates this book is one of a series and it represents a fraction of designs on offer from the business who made the book.

The patterns seem commercially produced by they are all very Japanese in nature, showing riffs on traditional designs such as rising steam, plum blossoms, hemp leaf and the like.

The silk is a very thin crepe silk and the colors, as well as some patterns, are bold and rich.

A wonderful design resource and certainly a beautiful book to own.
