A Rustically Woven Obi: Thick yarns and Multi-Colored Warp
mid twentieth century
104" x 5 7/8", 264 cm x 15 cm
This is a subtly colored and woven rustic obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using thick weft yarns that give the appearance that the obi is sakiori or weaving using a rag yarn weft.
The warp yarns on this obi are multi-colored and they tone the body of the obi a bit on the reddish side. The weft yarns are shades of murky, mottled tones, deep blue-blacks and dull grey-blue. There is a faint brown-toned stain on the obi, shown in detail photographs here.
This hand woven obi is in very good condition, with no visible holes or stains, and it is a handsome example of a rustic obi.
