A Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Mottled Plaid

$95.00 USD

mid twentieth century
119" x 6 7/8", 302 cm x 17.5 cm

This is a nicely colored and woven sakiori obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns on this obi are white, red and black in color which give the obi the striped look.  The weft yarns--thin, shredded rags--are evenly spaced bars of dark toned yarn.

This hand woven sakiori obi is in very good condition, with no visible holes or stains, and it is a very handsome example of a traditional, sakiori weaving.

This is an elegantly colored, beautifully woven folk textile.
