A Short Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash with Tapestry Style Passages
$95.00 USD
mid twentieth century
86" x 6 1/4", 218.5 cm x 16 cm
This is a nicely colored and woven shorter-than-normal sakiori obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns on this obi are black in color. The weft yarns--thin, shredded rags--are woven in a kind of tapestry technique and the overall pale tone of the obi is nice to look at.
This hand woven sakiori obi is in very good condition, with no visible holes or stains, and it is a very handsome example of a traditional, sakiori weaving.
This is an elegantly colored, beautifully woven folk textile.
