A Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash

$115.00 USD

mid twentieth century
112" x 6 1/2", 284.5 cm x 16.5 cm

This is a nicely colored and woven sakiori obi, or a traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The design is wonderfully unusual for a sakiori obi as it seems to employ a tapestry-like weave to create the geometric patterns we see here.

This hand woven sakiori obi is in good condition, with some softly ingrained creases and no visible holes or stains. It is a very handsome example of a traditional, sakiori weaving.

This is an elegantly colored, beautifully woven folk textile.
