A Sakiori Obi or Contrasting Colors: Block Woven
$85.00 USD
mid twentieth century
112" x 6", 285 cm x 15 cm
Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The effect of this sakiori obi is of a regulated, well-patterned, checkerboard of a complex design. The warp yarns are cotton.
The overall color of this obi is unusual: the close tonal value of the red and green colors are such that the color has an almost vibrational effect when seen.
A beautifully pattened sakiori obi in good, well-used condition appropriate with its age. Strange, good color combination.
Beautiful.
