A Sakiori Obi: Generous Area of Variegated Rag Weave
mid twentieth century
128" x 6 1/2", 325 cm x 16.5 cm
This is a good looking sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cotton cloth as its weft yarn.
Its coloration is wonderful for the 19" or 48 cm length of variegated colored weaving which sits in the middle of the dull, mottled purple-toned base.
The warp yarns are of black dyed cotton which give the overall color tone of the obi an added richness of color.
This kimono sash is in good, used condition--it is sturdy and the colors are handsome.
A beautiful, richly toned folk textile in a fairly unusual color palette and a good example of a sakiori obi.
