A Sakiori Obi: Brown Base and Contrasting Narrow Lines
mid twentieth century
124" x 7", 315 cm x 18 cm
This is a lovely sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The warp yarns are black in color which add a richness of tone to the already richly colored rag weft yarns. The weft yarns are of a chocolately brown tone with some regularly-spaced brick colored and white parallel lines that create a simple yet graphic design on the obi. There are a few strands of metallic gold thread at one end of the obi.
This lovely kimono sash is in very good condition, with no visible stains or holes.
A beautiful, elegant folk textile.
