A Rustic Woven Obi: Ragweave Sakiori

$80.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
90" x 5", 228.5 cm x 12.75 cm

This is a handsomely colored and woven sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns on this obi are a thick, white cotton which are quite visible on the finished obi. The weft yarns are fed in blocks of grey/blue, striated or mottled maroon, and a deep eggplant color.  Note that the intermittent, regularly spaced horizontal bands irregularly alternate in white and saffron color.

This lovely obi is in very good condition, with no visible stains or holes.

A beautiful, elegant folk textile.
