A Rustic Textured Obi: Thick Weft Yarns

$95.00 USD

mid twentieth century
102" x 5", 259 cm x 12.75 cm

This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from a indigo dyed cotton warp with what appears to be weft material that is thick cotton and woolen yarns.

The black cotton warp gives the overall color scheme a rich tone. The weft is fed in blocks of natural brown and tomato colored yarn, creating a striped pattern up the length of the obi. The overall visual result is a fairly uniform, striped design rendered in handsome, restrained colors.

The condition is good and used and there seems to be very little damage or wear to this piece, however one of the two short ends seemed to have been cut or trimmed.

Just lovely.
