A Rustic Obi: Multi-Colored Warp
mid twentieth century
115" x 5 1/4", 292 cm x 13 cm
This rustic obi gives the impression that it is sakiori or ragweave, but in actual fact is seems to be woven from a cotton warp with what appears to be a wool yarn weft.
As can be seen on the accompanying detail photos, the cotton warp is multi-colored using bright, saturated tones. The weft is fed in blocks of colors: pink, white, mottled, green and red. The overall visual result is a cheerful if not tonally improvised length of hues that is flavored with lovely, colorful strands of cotton warp.
The condition is good and used and there seems to be very little damage or wear to this piece.
Just lovely.
