A Reversible Completely Sashiko Stitched Jacket: Wearable

$245.00 USD

early to mid twentieth century
38" x 48", 96.5 cm x 122 cm

Reversible is the key word when describing this jacket because both its sides are equally interesting and, if worn, the coat can be worn showing either the inside or the outside.

Shown here is the proper inside which, as can be seen, is made of pieces of striped, checked and plain dyed indigo cotton. The striped and checked cloth were more than likely taken from bedding, from a futon cover. The coat shows horizontal rows of sashiko stitching on all its parts, bodice and sleeves alike. The coat is two layers thick.

The proper outside of the coat is a very nice indigo dyed kasuri cotton as can be glimpsed in the detail photos here.

The dimensions noted above are for the shoulder to hem, first, followed by sleeve tip to sleeve tip.

A beautiful, wholly wearable jacket.
