A Resist Dyed Cotton Furoshiki: Paulownia Mon

This good-sized, resist dyed cotton textile is a furoshiki, a traditional cloth used in Japan for storage, hauling, carrying and any other practical use such a thing could provide.

The cotton is of a nice weight and it is indigo dyed.

The greyish indigo tone has "crackled" or has somehow become veiny with wear, probably from wringing after washing, but that is not certain. This unevenness of color tone is an interesting detail that works nicely in contrast to the powerfully graphic and centrally place mon or crest that shows a stylized paulownia flower.

The furoshiki is hand stitched and would be an attractive addition to the home as artwork or as a piece to study.
