A Red-Toned Sakiori Obi: Rag Woven Kimono Sash

$110.00 USD

mid twentieth century
114" x 8", 289.5 cm x 20.5 cm

This is a lovely, red-toned sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.

The warp yarns are of red and black dyed cotton and the weft yarns are of red, purple and white toned rags.  Please note that in person the obi has less of a purple cast than shown on these photographs: the overall tone of the "purple" colored areas as shown here are more muted and darker than the photos depict.

This lovely obi is in good, used condition with a really lovely, drapey hand and a beautifully complex color palette.

A richly toned folk textile.
