A Red Cardboard Drawered Box: Daruma
ca. mid twentieth century
4 3/4" x 9" x 7 1/2", 12 cm x 23 cm x 19 cm
What a fun item. This is a drawered, cardboard box that has been used hard and is imprinted on the top and on the drawer's front with wonderful images of Daruma dolls, symbols of perseverance and good luck.
The box is used for storage, as is fairly easy to see. The top and back are light faded, there are chips and loss to the paper lamination on the edges of the box, as well as to the back seam of the box, which is split, but which is still sturdy enough to use for light storage or for decoration.
