A Purple and Mottled White Ragweave Obi: One Black Block

$90.00 USD

mid twentieth century
114" x 6", 289.5 cm x 15.25 cm

Shown here is a sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.

The graphic, bold quality of this purple and white striped obi is tempered by some softer details: the "white" bars are actually woven from figured or kasuri cotton so the "white" is gently mottled. And the regularity of the purple bars is broken by the presence of one black bar, shown here on the accompanying detail photographs.

The warp is of black cotton which lends a rich, tonal effect to the piece.

An beautiful sakiori obi in good, well-used condition appropriate with its age and with no rips or stains.

Beautiful.
