A Pieced and Patched Boro Length: Indigo Dyed Plaid Cotton
ca. late nineteenth, early twentieth century
79" x 12 1/2", 200.5 cm x 31.5 cm
This lovely and elegant length of indigo dyed checked hand loomed cotton is hand stitched from three separate pieces.
The cloth, which is in good condition, shows lovely gradient blues and good whites. Each of the separate pieces is finished by hand before being stitched together; the length shows four patches.
Pay special attention to the two patches which are woven with stripes of varying widths: this type of stripe was referred to as "cascade" or "waterfall" since it looks a bit like rushing, falling water in motion.
A very good looking length of indigo dyed cotton boro.
