A Patched Striped Zokin: Sashiko Stitched Dustrag

$18.00 USD

ca. mid twentieth century
8 1/4" x 11", 21 cm x 28 cm

This is a very handsome boro zokin which is sewn from recycled cotton cloth of two types of woven stripes, probably about four layers in all.  The sashiko stitching--in a wonderful crisscross pattern--which covers the entire front and back surface of the zokin, is beautifully executed and adds charm to this otherwise utilitarian cloth.

Zokin are traditional Japanese dustrags which are almost always made from layered and sashiko stitched scraps of cloth--note the loss and abrasion to the base cloth of this dust rag.
