A Patched Length of Indigo Kaya: Hemp Mosquito Netting
ca. early to mid twentieth century
70" x 12", 178 cm x 30 cm
This is a wonderful length of rustic, indigo dyed hemp cloth. This is a panel from a kaya
or mosquito netting, hence the very loose, open weave of the cloth; the
color is a very warm blue-green that can leave you wondering, "is this blue,
or is this green?"
The color might vary depending on the ambient light conditions; the hemp yarns are wiry and have taken the dye in a slightly uneven fashion, which adds to the country appeal of this length.
There are two patches of light colored hemp cloth hand stitched to the piece; one is a nicely shaped rectangular patch, the other is a smaller, folded, shaggy patch.
A lovely length of old kaya.
