A Patched, Large Komebukuro: Shown Inside-Out
early twentieth century
as shown: 13" x 13" x 13", 33 cm x 33 cm x 33 cm
This is a large-sized, beautifully patched and mended--or boro--drawstring bag with nice age.
The base of the bag is stitched from about nine different cottons ranging in age from late nineteenth century to the early-to-mid twentieth century. The bag is shown here inside-out in order to highlight the very good patching and hand stitching that have accumulated over time.
The patched cotton and their colors look really nice together, and the textures provided by the very good mending are rich.
The bag's drawstring seems to be original to the bag and is threaded through loops which are original and intact.
A gorgeous, boro bag with good size and age--and great visual appeal.
