A Panel of Tsutsugaki Dyed Cotton: Beautiful Hand Spun Yarns

$85.00 USD

late nineteenth century
62" x 12", 157 cm x 30.5 cm

As lovely and graphically interesting as is the half image of the tsutsugaki dyed family crest, the hand spun, hand woven cotton cloth--rustic, soft and textured--is equally notable for these qualities.

The color, of course botanically derived, is had to describe. It is very dark in tone and seems to be some kind of blue-green. It reads almost black in color. The family crest, mokko, appears to have been resist dyed on both its sides: in certain cases this was done to create a crisp, clear image.

This length of cloth is old and in good, used condition considering its age. It may have been taken from a futon cover.
