A Pair of Zokin or Traditional Dust Rag: Hemp Stitching on Each
mid twentieth century

7" x 12 3/4", 18 cm x 32.5 cm
In the past many zokin have been offered here, a zokin being Japan's traditional dustrag which is hand sewn from layers of discarded cloth.
This pair is slightly different than the zokin shown before because this pair has the added value of being stitched with hemp thread, not the more often seen cotton thread.
This zokin is an unintended, artful collage of discarded, Japanese cottons and it seems that there are about two layers of cloth that comprise this one zokin. Front and back are equally interesting: and of course, since this textile was a working one that has been recycled, you will see surface wear to the piece on both sides.
Just wonderful.
