A Pair of Western Tailored Woman's Trousers: Japanese Cotton
mid twentieth century

waistband width when flat: 13", 33 cm

This is a pair of woman's trousers which are stitched from cloth that was recycled, probably from a traditional Japanese garment. They are still wearable.
The cloth is indigo dyed kasuri cotton, very softened over time and the trousers are simply fashioned: they are hand stitched.
Note the waist band of a contrasting kasuri cotton pattern that is outfitted with three belt loops: the trousers close on the side with two metal snaps.
A lovely pair of pants which show us a glimpse of life from old Japan.
