A Nicely Patched Length of Low-Contrast Plaid Cotton: Old and Handwoven
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
65" x 12 1/2", 165 cm x 31.75 cm
This is a beautiful length of hand woven, indigo dyed cotton that shows a subtle yet graphic large plaid pattern. The blue-on-blue is rich and restrained.
Adding to the beauty of this lovely plaid length are 15 mending patches that are more or less evenly spaced over the surface of the cloth: some of the patches are stitched with thread that is twined of blue and white cotton.
A wonderfully sophisticated old cotton cloth.
