A Nicely Colored, Wide Sakiori Obi: Rag Weave
$125.00 USD
mid twentieth century
136" x 12", 345.5 cm x 30.5 cm
This is a sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
It is notable for its good-sized width and its very nice coloration in tones of grey, grey-blue, dull pink and brick.
The warp yarns are of black dyed cotton and the weft yarns are of the colors noted above. As can be seen the black warp yarns act to soften or enrich the colors of the weft yarns which on their own are in a lovely combination.
This lovely obi is in good, used condition and as is clear it is a beautiful, richly toned folk textile.
