A Narrow Sakiori Obi: Checked Rag Woven Kimono Sash
mid twentieth century
108" x 4 1/2", 274.5 cm x 11.5 cm
This is a beautifully colored, narrow sakiori obi, or a rustic, traditional kimono sash that is woven using shredded cloth as its weft yarn.
The overall cool coloration is shown in wide blocks of the hues that are both dark and light depending on the color of the warp yarn that is tinting the weft material: one half of the obi is warped in white yarns and the other half is warped in black.
This rustic obi is in good, used condition with no obvious stains, tears or damage.
A handsomely colored folk textile in an appealing color palette, this obi is hand woven.
