A Multi-Colored Checked Sakiori Obi: Rag Weave
mid twentieth century
116" x 10", 294.5 cm x 25.5 cm
Shown here is a wide and beautifully colored sakiori obi, which is a traditional kimono sash that has been woven from a weft of shredded, recycled cottons.
The effect of this sakiori obi is of a regulated, well-patterned, checkerboard that shows a mutating spectrum of colors within it. Really stunning.
The weft yarns are a variety of rag colors; the warp is a drab green and pink which adds the luster of rich color to this extraordinary obi. You will also note there is a crease running down the middle of the length of this obi which shows that its owner wore the obi folded in half lengthwise.
A richly colored and pattened sakiori obi in good, well-used condition appropriate with its age.
Extra beautiful.
