A Mid Century Kasuri Sodenashi: Unworn
ca. mid twentieth century
29" x 19", 73.5 cm x 48 cm
This sleeveless garment, or sodenashi, is hand stitched from two types of brightly colored kasuri cotton and is lined in a deep, blue dyed cotton cloth.
Most likely this garment was made in the middle of the twentieth century, and from its crisp condition it seems not to have been worn.
From some of the surface crinkling of the old cotton and its rather fresh feel, it seems clear that this vest has been stored for some time, waiting to be worn.
A lovely, highly wearable sodenashi, still vibrant in color after several decades.
