A Mid 20th Century Woman's Kimono: Cotton Kasuri

$75.00 USD

mid twentieth century
52 1/2" x 46", 132 cm x 117 cm

This is a large-scale, indigo dyed cotton kasuri or ikat kimono, and it was made for and owned by a woman. We can tell this by its curved sleeves which are open at the back.

The kimono is lightly starched and was worn as can be seen by very faint staining around the neck/collar area. The kimono shows an overall patina from wear; the cotton is of a good weight.

This kind of lage-pattern kasuri was widely woven Japan in the 1930s, 40s, 50s and beyond, and this kimono dates to the 1950s of so.

Very wearable.
