A Lovely Patched Length of Striped Cotton: Elegant
late nineteenth, early twentieth century
72 1/2" x 13 3/4", 181.5 cm x 35 cm
This quite long length of hand woven, striped cotton is handsome for its muted colors and its subtle beauty. What adds to its charm are the four patches affixed to the surface: one at top, one at bottom and two "twins" that meet in the center of the length, hugging the right selvedge.
As stated above, this is a good, long piece of cotton, one that is still in good shape even though it is faded from wear: it is still essentially very strong with no fragility or threadbare areas.
A lovely old length of cotton taken from a futon cover.
