A Lovely and Rustic Zokin: X Stitching

$20.00 USD

ca. early to mid twentieth century
11" x 13", 28 cm x 33 cm

This is a very handsome boro zokin which is sewn from recycled cotton cloth probably about four layers in all.  The rather haphazard sashiko stitching, which covers the entire front and back surface of the zokin and travels in two directions and forms a large central X in the center of the zokin, is beautifully executed and adds charm to this otherwise utilitarian cloth.

Zokin are traditional Japanese dustrags which are almost always made from layered and sashiko stitched scraps of cloth.

A very good looking zokin with lovely stitching.
