A Long Piece of Dyed Hemp Mosquito Netting: 4 yards or 3.65 meters
early twentieth century
4 yards x 14 1/2", 3.65 m x 37 cm
This is a very long piece of hand plied, hand woven hemp or ramie (likely hemp) mosquito netting that has been dyed in indigo, yielding a hard-to-define color: is it blue, is it green, is it blue-green?
The color reads as an attractive dull blue-green tone. The texture is wiry and wonderful with fairly easily identified ply joins which indicate the yarns that were used to weave this were hand made.
There are warp-based, narrow stripes on this length which are the result of warp yarns being clustered close together. The generous length is in good, used condition with no noticeable flaws or damage.
