A Long Panel of Patched Kaya: Hemp Mosquito Netting
ca. early to mid twentieth century
67" x 12 1/4", 170 cm x 31 cm
This is a wonderful length of rustic, over dyed indigo hemp cloth. This is a panel from a kaya or mosquito netting, hence the very loose, open weave of the cloth; the color is a very warm blue that can leave you wondering, "is this blue, or is this green?"
The color might vary depending on the ambient light conditions; the hemp yarns are wiry and have taken the dye in a slightly uneven fashion, which adds to the country appeal of this length.
The three applied patches, each with lovely stitching, add charm to this good sized length.
