A Long Attractive Boro Panel: Clear Indigo Blues
ca. early twentieth century
75" x 13", 190.5 cm x 33 cm
This long, hand loomed length of indigo dyed patched cotton has been taken from a futon cover.
The medium tone blue color is really wonderfully bright and clear; the medium weight cotton is extremely lovely and shows a very subtle striped variegation along the warp yarns.
The patches and repair are what add interest to this cotton length: in total there are eight patches, the two diagonally set patches are charming, and they mimic the area of unfaded indigo on the proper, left top of this length: here the length was folded over and was protected from the fading effects of light, thus creating a deep, blue colored corner.
One small hole, as can be seen on the accompanying photos.
A really beautiful length of boro cotton from old Japan.
