A Lightweight Cotton Patched Furoshiki: Boro Wrapping Cloth
$75.00 USD
mid twentieth century
29" x 23", 73.5 cm x 58.5 cm
This is a furoshiki or a traditional Japanese wrapping or carrying cloth. It is made of lightweight cotton that seems to have been commercially milled and printed, perhaps for the express purpose of being a furoshiki.
It shows a lovely pattern of motifs in boxes that are staggered on the surface of the furoshiki. Over this design there are 7 patches which are hand stitched to it.
The cloth of the furoshiki is so lightweight that if you would like you can use it as a scarf or fashion accessory: it drapes well and scrunches equally well.
An attractive, mended textile.
