A Length of Woven Plaid Cotton: Deep, Luminous Blues

$75.00 USD

early twentieth century
62" x 13 1/2", 157.5 cm x 34 cm

This is length of heavily woven, indigo dyed cotton that shows a beautiful plaid design, the blues of the plaid being so rich they have a luminous effect.

What is interesting about this length, aside from its striking color, is the basket weave effect that happens at the intersection of the warp and weft. This basket weave was popular in the 19th century and, among other names, it is referred to a sankuzushi.

The piece is in what appears to be unused condition and it is lightly starched.

A beautifully colored plaid cloth, very rich in indigo.
