A Length of Unsai Momen: Stitched Cloth Intended for Tabi Soles
$75.00 USD
mid twentieth century
39" x 9 3/4", 99 cm x 24.5 cm
This is an interesting length of layered, power loomed cotton that has been densely--and purposefully--sashiko stitched.
This cotton called unsai momen was stitched in such a way because it was intended to be used for soles of tabi or traditional, split toe Japanese foot wear.
The length is stitched about half way and if you lift one of the two layers you can see the loose threads from the dense stitching--and this is depicted in the accompanying detail photograph.
A great teaching or study tool or something wonderful to have and use in creative projects.
