A Length of Two Technique Dyed Cloth: Shibori and Stencil
$65.00 USD
early to mid twentieth century
30 1/2" x 13 1/4", 77.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of indigo, powerloomed cotton that is dyed in the shibori method. The shibori shows as an overall, mottled design and laid over this is a stenciled, grid pattern of relatively thick, black colored lines.
The cloth is lightweight and was most likely taken from a yukata, which is an unlined, casual kimono.
The contrast between the watery effect of the shibori and the rigid design of the grid is what makes this piece appealing to the eyes. Please note a small to the center, left border of the cloth.
An unusual take on shibori dyeing.
