A Length of Tsutsugaki Dyed Cotton: Cloud Forms
$75.00 USD
early twentieth century
48" x 12 1/2", 122 cm x 31.5 cm
This is a length of beautifully textured, hand spun, hand woven cotton that has been resist dyed in the tsutsugaki method.
The fragment of cloth shown here depicts two sets of three blunt, wide, parallel lines which more than likely are a Japanese way of portraying stylized clouds.
The simplicity of the rendering of these forms and their placement on this length are visually intriguing and you could say very "Japanese."
The indigo tone is deep, rich and inky blue and the condition is very good and used.
Beautiful.
