A Length of Suji Shibori: Pleated Technique
early to mid twentieth century
53" x 13 3/4", 134.5 cm x 35 cm
What a lovely length of hand made, indigo dyed cotton shibori in a simple, beautiful pattern.
This piece, undoubtedly from Narumi/Arimatsu, is of a type that was pleated and tied before it was dyed: the "broken" vertically dyed lines are due to the pleated fabric having been bound by string before being vat dyed.
In good, bright condition and on good quality cotton, this length shows some ingrained creases from wear--and it is really handsome length of hand dyed shibori.
