A Length of Striped Kasuri Cotton: Well Cover Motif
early to mid twentieth century
60" x 13.5", 152.5 cm x 34 cm
This boldly designed length of stripe and kasuri woven cotton is starched so it is a bit stiff to feel.
The design is graphic and does not show a great deal of subtlety: two sets of three coral colored wide stripes are foils for isolated white colored well cover designs, the "hashtag" images that appear along the length embedded in the dark colored cotton. The stripes are detailed with blurred white areas set in regular areas along their length.
The cotton is of a blue-black color.
A handsome length of kasuri cotton with a graphic appeal and in good, used condition.
