A Length of Stitched Shibori: Blips on a Diagonal
early to mid twentieth century
59 1/2" x 13 1/4", 151 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton which has been decorated in the stitched shibori method.
It shows both horizontal and diagonal intersecting parallel lines both of which contain small "blips." This is a fairly crowded design and it is an unusual one.
This lightweight, machine loomed length of dyed cotton was taken from a yukata or an unlined, summer or casual kimono. That said it shows ingrained creases from its former life as a garment.
It is dyed in a rarely seen pattern and is attractive not just for that but more so for its aesthetic appeal.
Lovely.
