A Length of Shibori Dyed Cotton: Stitched Blips #1
early to mid twentieth century
25" x 13 1/4", 63.5 cm x 33.5 cm
This is a length of indigo dyed cotton shibori that was produced in Arimatsu, one of the towns in Aichi prefecture that was a leading producer and innovator in the production of shibori.
The pattern shows a repeat pattern of stitched shibori blips that are set in pairs and arranged on the diagonal. When seen from a distance you can discern that this was meant to evoke the interlocking circle or shippo tsunagi pattern.
The stitched pattern is dyed onto a length of commercially loomed, fairly lightweight cotton and is in good, used condition.
Wonderful to look at!
